Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub said on Wednesday that only an “elected” government could run the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.
Addressing the press conference in Islamabad, flanked by PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Ayub expressed his thoughts in line with his party’s letter to the international lender. “The PTI had never tried to put a barrier to the economy’s growth.”
“The PTI wants to see the uplift of the country. There is a dire need to utilise the loans for the reforms in the country,” Ayub stated.
Meanwhile, Barrister Gohar said: “We do not want to create obstacles in the IMF programme.”

Separately, the PTI penned a letter to the IMF, urging the global lender to take into account the political stability of the country in any further discussions regarding financial assistance.
According to Reuters, the letter addressed to the IMF outlines the critical importance of political stability in Pakistan's economic landscape.
While specific details of the correspondence remain undisclosed, senior officials assure that more information will be disclosed in due course.
