The Hindu community in Pakistan celebrated the important religious festival of Mahashivratri with devotion and enthusiasm, as religious rituals were performed in temples across the country.
The main ceremony, organized by the Evacuee Trust Property Board, was held at the historic Katas Raj Temples where devotees gathered to perform religious rituals and offer prayers.
Minister of State for Minority Affairs Khel Das Kohistani attended the ceremony as a special guest. Evacuee Trust Property Board Chairman Qamaruz Zaman also participated prominently in the event.
Development for Katas Raj Temple
Speaking at the ceremony, Qamar-uz-Zaman announced that a state-of-the-art library would be constructed at the historic Katas Raj Temple.
Khel Das Kohistani said that the temple would be highlighted at the international level to promote its historical and religious significance. He also revealed that a proposal to organize mass marriage ceremonies at Katas Raj Temple is under consideration.
Renovation, facilities
Shrines Secretary Nasir Mushtaq stated that decoration and renovation work at temples managed by the Evacuee Trust Property Board is ongoing.
He added that special arrangements were made for pilgrims, including accommodation, medical assistance, and cleanliness facilities to ensure their comfort during the celebrations.
Security agencies, along with the district administration, prepared a foolproof security plan to ensure the safety of participants.
The secretary expressed that the celebrations would have been even more enjoyable if Hindu pilgrims from India had been able to participate in the events.
Minister Kohistani, while addressing the gathering, said that Muslims are facing atrocities in India, underscoring broader regional concerns.
Promoting religious harmony
Officials emphasized that the Mahashivratri celebrations are a practical example of promoting religious harmony and interfaith tolerance in Pakistan.
Nasir Mushtaq noted that such events reflect the country’s commitment to safeguarding minority rights and facilitating religious observances for all communities.
