The vibrant spirit of Basant has arrived in Quetta, with preparations reaching their peak as the three-day Basant Mela kicks off in the city.
From February 13 to 15, the skies over Quetta are expected to be filled with colorful kites, as children and youth gear up to celebrate the spring festival with enthusiasm.
Like Lahore, where Basant is traditionally celebrated with grandeur, Quetta is now embracing the festival in full color.
An unusual rush is being seen in kite markets across the city. Buyers have thronged various markets, purchasing colorful kites in large numbers.
Shopkeepers say the excitement this year is greater than ever before. According to vendors, sales have seen a significant increase compared to previous years.
Demand for kites and strings
The sale of kites and strings continues in different areas of the city, with citizens eagerly decorating their rooftops and preparing for the festivities.
The demand for strong strings and bright threads has surged, as everyone looks forward to filling the sky with vibrant colors.
Children and young people, in particular, are visibly excited, selecting their favorite kites and accessories ahead of the celebrations.
The Basant Mela in Quetta will continue for three days, bringing together families and communities to celebrate the arrival of spring.
Like Lahore’s well-known Basant festivities, Quetta’s celebrations are marked by rooftop gatherings and kite flying throughout the day.
On the other hand, social circles have appealed to citizens to exercise caution during the celebrations. Authorities have warned that strict legal action will be taken against aerial firing during Basant, emphasizing public safety as a top priority.
