The Lahore Accountability Court on Thursday formally indicted former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and other accused in a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference over alleged corruption in Gujrat development projects.
The case was heard by Judge Rana Arif at the Accountability Court, where Parvez Elahi appeared along with other accused and their counsel Aamir Saeed Raan.
During the hearing, the court framed charges against all the accused, including Parvez Elahi, marking a key development in the long-running corruption reference.
Accused deny charges
After the indictment, Elahi and the other accused denied all allegations levelled against them. Following their pleas of innocence, the court summoned prosecution witnesses from the National Accountability Bureau to present evidence.
NAB has filed the reference against Elahi and other accused, alleging corruption in development schemes carried out in Gujrat. The bureau later submitted a supplementary reference after two additional accused -- Suleman Ahmed and Muzaffar Iqbal -- were included in the case.
Next hearing on Jan 29
The Accountability Court summoned NAB witnesses for the next hearing and adjourned the proceedings until January 29. The case will now move into the evidence stage, where the prosecution is expected to present its witnesses and supporting material.
