Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar has claimed that 19 politicians in the province have security threats.
He said this while talking to the media on Wednesday after attending an important meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, in Islamabad on security for the upcoming elections.
He said he could not disclose the names of the politicians due to security concerns. He further said Punjab was facing a shortage of 92,000 security personnel.
The IGP also stressed that the environment in Punjab was conducive to holding elections. He said 120,000 personnel had been deployed for elections in Punjab, while the number in the previous elections was 60,000.
Dr Anwar claimed that there will be a shortage of 92,000 personnel at polling stations in Punjab, as there will be more than 50,000 polling stations this time around.
The ECP meeting was attended by officials from the Interior Ministry as well as all four provinces.
