Former PTI chairman Imran Khan and former party minister Fawad Chaudhry could not be indicted in the contempt of election commission and chief election commissioner case even today.
The Election Commission of Pakistan deferred the proceedings till December 19.
When the four-member ECP bench returned to the secretariat after the hearing in Adiala Jail, journalists bombarded them with questions as to why Imran Khan was not indicted even today.
A member of the election commission replied that there were several reasons for the charges not being filed even today.
A four-member team of the commission, led by Sindh member Nisar Durrani, conducted the hearing in Adiala Jail.
LHC forms larger bench
Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court constituted a three-member larger bench on the petition of former prime minister Imran Khan against his jail trial in the contempt of election commission case.
The Lahore High Court chief justice constituted the full bench, headed by Justice Alia Neelam and including Justice Shahram Sarwar Chaudhry and Justice Asjad Javed Ghural. The full bench will hear the application on December 18.
The single bench had recommended the formation of a full bench on the request of Imran Khan. He adopted the stance that the jail trial of contempt of election commission was a violation of fundamental rights, and the court should order a halt in the jail trial.

On December 9, the former premier challenged before the Lahore High Court the proceedings of the contempt of election commission case and its jail trial.
Imran Khan’s petition was submitted by his lawyers Salman Akram Raja and Barrister Samir Khosa. The petition made the federal government, the Election Commission of Pakistan and the Adiala Jail superintendent parties.
Imran Khan argued in the petition that the ECP started contempt proceedings illegally, as it did not have the authority to try someone for contempt.
