United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday praised Pakistan's efforts to promote regional and global peace during a meeting with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at UN Headquarters in New York.
During the meeting, Naqvi and Guterres exchanged views on the regional and global security situation, with particular focus on Pakistan's mediation efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting peace in West Asia.
The two also discussed Pakistan's longstanding role in United Nations peacekeeping missions and its contributions to maintaining international peace and security.
Pakistan's commitment to peace
Naqvi said Pakistan has consistently played a responsible role in promoting peace, stability and the protection of human lives despite regional challenges.
He added that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had demonstrated responsible leadership in advancing regional peace efforts.
The interior minister also stressed that UN peacekeeping operations require realistic mandates and adequate resources to effectively carry out their responsibilities.
UN chief commends Pakistan
Guterres appreciated Pakistan's continued contributions to global peace and security, describing the country's longstanding cooperation in UN peacekeeping missions as valuable.
He also acknowledged Pakistan's recent diplomatic initiatives to promote peace in the region and thanked Islamabad for its continued role in supporting international peace and security.
