The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has issued its performance report for electricity distribution companies for the fiscal year 2024-25, revealing a loss of Rs472 billion to the national exchequer.
According to the report, distribution companies sustained Rs265 billion in losses under transmission and distribution. A further Rs207 billion loss arose from poor recovery of bills.
The Discos failed to meet targets set for reducing transmission and distribution losses. Nepra expressed concern over persistent losses in power transmission and distribution, as well as low bill recoveries.
The report said that losses incurred by distribution companies contribute to an increase in circular debt.
