A distressed man climbed a high-voltage electricity pole in the United Kingdom, leaving thousands without power.
According to foreign media reports, eyewitnesses said the incident occurred in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, where the man, allegedly suffering from mental strain, climbed an electricity pole near Sainsbury’s in the city centre.
Media reports stated that upon receiving information about the incident, police and emergency teams promptly reached the scene.
A police spokesperson said that at 9:15 a.m. yesterday, the man climbed the electricity pole near Brighouse Marina. Emergency services were called due to concern for his safety.
The statement added that the man came down on his own after a few hours, following which he was taken into custody.
The incident caused power outages in approximately 20,000 homes in surrounding areas, although restoration work is ongoing.
Previously, in 2017, a man in Lancashire was rescued while dangling about 60 feet high from a 275 kV electricity line.
At that time, he was safely brought down through a major rescue operation, though it remains unclear how he became trapped there.
