Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, calling for urgent measures to resolve the problems faced by potato farmers and increase their profits.
The letter emphasizes boosting exports and expanding access to global markets.
In her letter, Maryam stressed the need for immediate steps to increase potato exports. She highlighted that farmers are facing challenges that require federal intervention to stabilize prices and ensure fair returns.
The chief minister underscored that improving export opportunities would directly benefit growers by helping them secure better prices for their produce.
Access to global markets
Maryam requested concrete measures to help Pakistan access key international markets, including the European Union, Africa, and the United States.
She pointed out that tapping into these global markets would open new avenues for trade and significantly enhance export potential for Pakistani potatoes.
The Punjab CM also urged the federal government to accelerate potato exports through the National Logistics Corporation (NLC). She requested the removal of obstacles that are currently hindering smooth export operations, calling for streamlined coordination between relevant departments.
Financial relief, paperwork relaxation
In her letter, Maryam appealed for a special 25% discount in rental costs associated with potato exports. She said reducing transportation and logistics expenses would ease the burden on exporters and farmers alike.
Additionally, she requested special relaxation in export-related paperwork to simplify procedures and speed up shipments. she emphasized that these measures would help farmers obtain better prices for their potatoes and improve their overall profitability.
By addressing logistical, financial, and administrative hurdles, the chief minister aims to create a more farmer-friendly export system and strengthen Pakistan’s agricultural economy.
