The use of artificial cosmetic enhancements such as Botox to boost beauty is no longer limited to humans — camels are now also being subjected to cosmetic procedures in an effort to improve their appearance for competitions.
According to media reports, a camel beauty contest was recently held in Muscat, the capital of Oman, where dozens of camels were disqualified after being found to have received Botox injections to enhance their looks.
The report revealed that in the recently concluded pageant, nearly 20 camels were declared ineligible for competition due to the use of cosmetic injections aimed at artificially improving their appearance.
In Arab and Gulf countries, camels are regarded as a symbol of pride and prestige, and camel beauty contests are regularly organized across the region. As part of this tradition, a beauty competition was recently conducted among camels in Oman.
However, dozens of camels were barred from participating after their owners were found to have administered Botox injections to enhance their features.
Organizations that host camel beauty contests in the Arab world have strictly prohibited the use of artificial cosmetic procedures to alter the animals’ natural appearance. Similar incidents have also been reported in the past in Saudi Arabia, where camels were disqualified for undergoing cosmetic enhancements.
