An unusual incident in the Indian state of Rajasthan caused brief confusion in the gold market when a pigeon flew away with a gold chain worth nearly Rs100,000 from a jewellery shop.
The incident took place in the local bullion market of Degana town, where craftsmen were working on gold ornaments on the upper floor of a jewellery shop. According to traders, a pigeon suddenly entered the workshop and within moments picked up a newly made gold chain in its beak before flying out of the shop. Shopkeepers and staff were left stunned as they watched the valuable ornament being carried away, while the busy market saw temporary commotion.
Eyewitnesses said the pigeon landed on the roof of a nearby market building and remained there for several minutes. During this time, traders and passers-by closely observed its movements in the hope of recovering the chain without damage.
The chain later slipped from the pigeon’s beak and fell onto the roof, from where it was safely retrieved.
Traders confirmed that the gold chain was recovered in complete condition and suffered no damage.
