American weapons left behind in Afghanistan are being used against Pakistan, a claim made by Islamabad and now confirmed by an investigative report from US television network CNN.
According to the report, Afghanistan has become the world’s largest open arms market. The terrorist and insurgent groups from across the globe acquire American-made weapons from Afghanistan. The report said that the same weapons are also being used in attacks against Pakistan.
Moreover, the CNN reported that terrorists operating in Pakistan use M16 and M4 rifles, as well as M249 machine guns. The report added that American weapons were used in the recent suicide attack on Cadet College Wana.
The CNN team was shown hundreds of US-manufactured weapons obtained from militants. Serial markings on the rifles showed that the weapons were manufactured in the US state of South Carolina. The report warned that as long as these weapons remain in circulation, peace in the region will remain under threat.
