Kazakhstan’s President H.E. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev arrived in Islamabad on a high-level diplomatic visit to Pakistan.
He was received at the Prime Minister’s House by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with a guard of honor presented in his honour.
Bilateral and delegation-level meetings are scheduled to discuss avenues for enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
Strengthening trade and investment ties
The visit comes after Pakistan and Kazakhstan recently agreed to boost trade, investment, and regional connectivity. Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan met his Kazakh counterpart, Arman Shaqliyev, in Islamabad to discuss practical steps to enhance economic collaboration.
Kazakhstan’s delegation highlighted the country’s vision of linking Central and South Asia with Europe through major railway and road projects. These initiatives are expected to generate an estimated $5 billion in bilateral trade, offering new opportunities for businesses in both countries.
Focus on key sectors
Both sides emphasized strengthening cooperation in key sectors including agriculture, food processing, medicine, textiles, and mineral resources. Special attention was given to promoting business-to-business contacts and exchanging trade delegations to accelerate commercial partnerships.
Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to increasing direct engagement with Central Asia, aiming to turn potential opportunities into tangible economic results.
Agreements and MoUs
During the visit, several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements are set to be signed, covering multiple areas of mutual interest. These meetings are expected to lay the groundwork for long-term collaboration, enhancing regional connectivity and economic growth.
