Following an increase in diesel prices, transporters in Lahore have unilaterally raised fares.
Bus fares have been increased by between Rs50 and Rs150. The fare from Lahore to Rawalpindi has been raised from Rs1,600 to Rs1,750. Passengers travelling from Lahore to Rahim Yar Khan are now being charged Rs1,900 after an increase of Rs150. Fares from Lahore to Gujranwala have also been revised upwards.
Passengers said the increase in fares adds to their difficulties, while the prices of daily-use items also rise. Citizens have demanded a reduction in diesel prices to provide relief to the public.
It is worth noting that the government has kept the price of petrol unchanged at Rs253.17 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs11.30 per litre. Following the increase, the new price of high-speed diesel has been fixed at Rs268.38 per litre.
