A man from the US state of Utah has confined himself to a single room in his home for a year in an effort to improve his health.
The individual, identified as 49-year-old Skip Boyce, decided to limit his life entirely to his bedroom for one year as part of an attempt to change his lifestyle. He cut off all contact with the outside world.
Boyce, a former construction business owner, entered his bedroom on February 10 after saying goodbye to his wife and daughter and shut the door to begin his year-long isolation plan. He intends to remain in the room for all 365 days and broadcast the entire experience live on YouTube.
He said he does not leave the room and that the livestream continues 24 hours a day, seven days a week. He added that he does not bring in outside entertainment or unplanned interaction, and whatever happens is visible to viewers. He lives, sleeps, exercises, reads and writes in the same room and spends all his time there.
Boyce said the move was not meant to be shocking. He explained that he wanted to create a controlled environment where he could step back from constant stimulation, restore discipline and adopt habits focused on health, concentration and accountability. He added that giving up some bad habits had been easier than expected, including quitting soft drinks.
He claimed that after spending nearly three weeks in isolation, he had begun to notice positive changes in his life. He said he was exercising more, eating more healthily and experiencing significant improvement in his mental health.
However, not everyone believes the plan will lead to positive results. The move has drawn mixed reactions on social media.
One X user has termed the decision as extremely unhealthy, saying that sunlight and regular physical activity were necessary. The user added that social interaction and fresh air were also important and questioned whether the room even had a shower, warning that the approach was not good for health.
