Differences have surfaced in the friendship between American pop star Taylor Swift and her longtime friend Blake Lively after their private messages came to light.
According to reports, tensions between Taylor Swift and Blake Lively had begun to grow at a time when the public was still unaware of any dispute.
Recently released legal documents linked to Blake Lively’s ongoing case against Justin Baldoni included alleged text messages exchanged between the two friends.
In one message, Blake Lively wrote, “There’s no particular reason for asking, but for some reason I feel like I should ask - is everything okay?”
She added, “I feel like I’ve been a bad friend because I’ve been sad for months and kept talking only about myself. But during that time, you not only supported me generously as my biggest strength, you also forgave me for being in that state.”
Taylor Swift replied about an hour later, saying that she felt exhausted in every aspect of her life and that for the past few months she had sensed a change in the way Blake spoke to her.
The singer wrote that she missed her cheerful, slightly sarcastic, simple and natural friend - the one she used to talk to. She added that she understood Blake was facing criticism from all sides, which was why she felt the need to overexplain everything.
Taylor further wrote that this was the reason some distance had developed between them and that Blake did not need to apologize, asking her instead to just come back.
In another message, Blake Lively acknowledged Taylor Swift’s concerns and admitted that her fear of being misunderstood had led her to exaggerate even simple matters.
She also wrote that good people - her lifelong friends - had quietly drifted away, which left her feeling deeply frightened.
It is worth noting that these messages, sent just days before the end of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, highlight the pressure and misunderstandings that ultimately played a major role in the breakdown of their friendship.
