Federal Flood Commission has warned a new spell of rain and snowfall is expected to hit the country’s upper regions due to a strong western weather system.
The commission warned of an unusual increase in water flow in the Kabul River and its tributaries, prompting flood alerts for several districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir.
According to the commission, the powerful western system will enter the upper areas from tomorrow evening. Moderate to heavy rain and snowfall are likely in the upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir.
Authorities have cautioned that between January 22 and 23, the water flow in the Kabul River could rise significantly, posing a risk of flash flooding in Swat, Chitral, Buner, Shangla, Dir, Malakand, Bajaur, and Mardan.
Flood alerts have also been issued for Sawabi, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram, Kohistan, and Haripur.
The Federal Flood Commission has instructed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the district administrations to remain on high alert, ensure all preventive measures are in place, and closely monitor flood protection infrastructure in areas adjoining the Kabul River.
The new weather system is expected to bring significant rainfall and snowfall, raising concerns for both urban and rural areas in the affected regions. Authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant and follow safety instructions to minimize risks from potential flash floods.
