A meeting between the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) and the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has reached an agreement on improving case management in the Supreme Court.
During the meeting, it was decided that the Supreme Court will issue a monthly cause list in advance and will give notice forty eight hours before the de-listing of any case. According to an official statement, the monthly cause list will be released ahead of time, while the weekly cause list will be issued by Wednesday.
Notice of de-listing will be mandatory 48 hours in advance. Cases de-listed within 24 hours will be fixed again within the same week. The policy on preliminary hearings will be followed strictly. Cases of prisoners aged over 60 years will be heard on a priority basis, while cases settled through compromise will also be included at the preliminary hearing stage.
The statement said that judgments and orders will be sent to lawyers immediately by email. Approval has been given for a new procedure for hearings after lunch, and hearings after the lunch break will be held on a joint request of the parties, with no adjournment granted in such cases.
Benches in branch registries will be constituted according to the number of cases, while the Registrar will hear complaints daily from eleven to eleven fifteen.
