Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima has confirmed that the auction for 5G spectrum in Pakistan will take place during Ramadan, with the goal of completing it by the end of February.
She made the announcement during an interview with Samaa at the Parliament House.
Shaza Fatima stated that following the 5G spectrum auction, the quality of existing 3G and 4G services is expected to improve within three to four months. She also expressed the government’s aim to launch 5G services in major cities within six months of the auction.
The minister added that all telecom companies have congratulated her regarding the 5G spectrum auction information memorandum. She noted that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is currently consulting stakeholders on service quality standards and rollout conditions outlined in the memorandum.
Telecom companies are finalizing their preparations for the 5G auction, and all have been given a three-week period to respond. Shaza Fatima said that after consultations, the information memorandum will be finalized in the first week of February.
