Islamabad authorities have completed the initial investigation into the G-7 explosion which showed that the blast appears to have been caused by a gas leak.
The preliminary report states that three houses were completely destroyed, while two others sustained damage. The incident claimed the lives of eight people and left 11 others injured.
The initial investigation indicates that the deaths resulted from severe burns and victims being trapped under debris. Samples from gas pipelines and gas connections at the site have been collected for analysis.
The explosion occurred at 7:19pm and rescue teams arrived at the scene at 7:37pm. Narrow streets caused delays in bringing machinery to the site. Local residents initially carried out rescue efforts, which were later completed by professional teams.
Authorities are yet to determine the exact location where the gas accumulated and the source of ignition. Samples and chemical residues have been collected to assess the intensity and nature of the explosion.
To prevent further incidents, gas and electricity in the area have been temporarily disconnected. The ongoing investigation will involve district administration, police, forensic teams, and gas company officials.
It is worth noting that the explosion occurred during a wedding ceremony on the night between Saturday and Sunday. Among the deceased were the bride and groom. Overall, 19 people were rescued from the rubble of the affected homes.
