Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi addressed lawyers at the Lahore High Court Bar, criticising the Punjab government and urging preparations for a street movement to defend judicial independence.
Afridi labeled the Punjab government as the “occupation government,” accusing it of operating with outside influences. He said the justice system has been paralyzed, stressing that the Constitution grants citizens the right to hold meetings and protests.
The KP chief minister emphasised that when a provincial chief minister visits, over a thousand workers are mobilized, reflecting strong organizational support for the party’s initiatives.
Call for street movement
Referring to PTI founder Imran Khan, Afridi stated that preparations for a street movement must begin. He highlighted the critical role of the legal community, asserting that lawyers would be essential in safeguarding constitutional rights and the independence of the judiciary.
Afridi also said that the party will not seek negotiations, accusing opposition forces of wanting conflict to continue rather than peaceful dialogue.
Emphasis on judiciary independence
The KP Chief Minister expressed support for judicial independence, invoking the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to reinforce his point about justice and fairness. He urged citizens and lawyers alike to remain vigilant in defending democratic institutions.
Afridi’s remarks come during his visit to his party leader’s residence in Zaman Park, Lahore, and were delivered to both lawyers and the media, emphasizing the party’s proactive stance.
