The protest by the Metro Bus Service employees in the twin cities ended after talks between RTA Rawalpindi Secretary Syed Asad Abbas Shirazi, and the private operating company, following assurances of early payment of salaries.
According to details surfaced on Saturday, employees of the Metro Bus Service operating between Islamabad and Rawalpindi had gone on strike over unjustified salary deductions and non-payment of full wages. The protesters stopped Metro buses near IJP Station and staged a sit-in on the track while holding placards.
They said that for the past two months the private company’s management had neither paid salaries nor refrained from deducting Rs6,000 from each employee’s pay. The suspension of bus operations caused severe difficulties for residents of the twin cities.
Upon receiving information, Regional Transport Authority Secretary Syed Asad Abbas held talks with the private company. The company assured early payment of salaries, after which the Metro Bus Service was restored.
Asad Abbas said that if salaries were not paid by Monday, punitive action would be taken against the company.
