The Islamabad Excise Department has clarified the new rules regarding mandatory M-Tags stickers for vehicles entering the city.
According to officials, vehicles already equipped with motorway M-Tags will not need to obtain a separate sticker.
Bilal Azam, Director of Excise, stated that starting from November 18, stickers will be issued at various checkpoints across the city. The department has assured vehicle owners that M-Tags issued from the Excise office prior to this date remain valid.
The initiative is part of the Excise Department’s efforts to streamline vehicle identification and regulation within the capital.
Last year, the National Highway Authority (NHA) and the Motorway Police declared M-Tag registration mandatory for all vehicles accessing the motorways, effective from February 5, 2024.
According to an official statement, the decision aims to simplify the entry and exit processes at motorway points, ensuring a seamless flow of traffic.
In the first phase, the requirement for M-Tag registration was initially relaxed, but now it has become obligatory for every vehicle intending to use the motorways.
