A young married couple in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, became an internet sensation this week after social media users observed that they resembled each other so closely that many mistook them for twin siblings.
The couple, identified as Liang Caiyu and He Xiansheng both in their twenties, operate a traditional herbal medicine shop and rose to fame through short video clips on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.
At the outset, their small herbal business struggled to attract customers. Their fortune changed when they began uploading promotional videos online. Once Liang noticed that her appearance mirrored that of her husband, she persuaded him to appear in short, humorous clips that emphasised their likeness by wearing identical clothing. These clips soon became the main feature of their business promotion.
Liang explained that when she first met He, she had no thought of any resemblance between them. Over time, after spending nearly every hour together for the past two years—working, eating and resting side by side—she came to realise how alike they had become. According to her, constant companionship had gradually shaped their faces into similar expressions and features.
Although He was shy by nature, he eventually agreed to take part in the videos. In some of them, he even dressed in women’s attire to highlight their uncanny similarity. The light-hearted approach drew wide attention, and soon viewers followed their page not merely for their herbal products but for the amusement of watching this twin-like husband and wife.
Their videos quickly gained popularity across Chinese social media, turning their account into a centre of entertainment for thousands of followers. Photos of the pair spread swiftly online, prompting debates among users about whether they were indeed a married couple or long-lost twins.
One commenter suggested, in jest, that the pair should undergo a DNA test to confirm they were not related, while another remarked that even their double chins appeared to match.
Many internet users described the couple as the most look-alike pair they had ever seen, saying they represented not only love but also an extraordinary example of human resemblance.
