The Meteorological Department has confirmed that the existing low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea has intensified into a depression.
Currently located about 440 kilometres south of Karachi, the system has prompted the Tropical Cyclone Warning Center Karachi to issue its fourth alert.
Depression strengthens over Arabian Sea
According to the Met Department, the depression is positioned at 21.0° North latitude and 67.9° East longitude, moving within the Arabian Sea. The weather system is expected to influence coastal districts of Sindh with rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.
Rain and lightning forecast for Sindh
Light rain and lightning are likely in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Karachi today. Residents in these areas have been advised to take precautions as the unstable weather continues.
Strong winds and rough sea conditions
The Met Office has warned of strong winds blowing at 40–50 kilometres per hour near the Sindh coast. Alongside, high sea waves and bad weather conditions are expected to make the Arabian Sea unsafe for small vessels and fishing boats.
Fishermen and authorities on alert
Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the deep sea until October 3. Coastal and port authorities have also been put on high alert, with relevant agencies instructed to stay vigilant for any emergency situation.
Vigilance urged amid rising sea activity
Officials stressed that while the system has not yet intensified into a cyclone, continuous monitoring is underway. The authorities will provide further updates if the depression strengthens.
