A 29-year-old resident of Karachi’s Central District died at a private hospital after being infected with Naegleria fowleri, according to the Sindh Health Department.
According to details surfaced on Saturday, this marked the fifth death caused by the amoeba in the city this year.
The department said the young man began showing symptoms on September 7 and was admitted to hospital on 11 September. He passed away the following day, on September 12. After his death, medical reports confirmed the presence of Naegleria fowleri in his system.
Health officials confirmed that the individual had not participated in any water-related activities. It is believed that the infection may have been transmitted through the use of tap water, either by drinking it or bathing.
