Security forces have arrested two key fugitives — Shershah Khan and Shahrez Khan — accused of involvement in the May 9, 2023 Jinnah House attack.
Officials say both men had been in hiding for months and later fled abroad before returning to Pakistan, where they were taken into custody on the basis of strong evidence.
Arrests made after long hiding
According to security sources, Shershah, a prime accused in the Jinnah House vandalism, was arrested on August 22, 2025, after his return from London, where he had been hiding for nearly two years since the May 9 incidents. On May 9, he was reportedly present with convicted criminal Hassaan Niazi. An FIR was already registered against him in connection with the May 9 attack.
Police say Shershah first went underground following the riots and later fled abroad while continuing to run a digital campaign against state institutions. FIRs against him include charges of arson, vandalism, attacking police officials, and setting vehicles on fire. Video evidence and geo-fencing data have confirmed his presence at the scene, officials added.

Shahrez Khan, also wanted in connection with planning and attacking Jinnah House, was formally arrested on August 21, 2025, after being named in a supplementary report submitted in September 2023. He was presented in court a day later. Authorities say his arrest followed registration of a formal FIR supported by digital and video evidence.
The sources say a certain political party's social media activity and propaganda against institutions continued after the arrests.
FIR and court proceedings
The FIRs accuse both Shershah and Shahrez of orchestrating violence, damaging state property, and inciting attacks on security personnel during the May 9 riots. Investigators have requested 30-day physical remand to conduct further polygraphic and forensic tests.

'No one can escape accountability'
Officials said the arrests prove that those who attacked the state and its institutions on May 9 cannot evade justice. “The May 9 tragedy was a betrayal — its perpetrators will face the full demands of law,” a security source said.
Authorities also alleged that both brothers abandoned their party workers while hiding abroad, yet continued running a digital media cell against Pakistan. Their arrests, they added, were carried out strictly in accordance with the law.
