The opening game of a golf tournament in Japan was cancelled after a bear appeared on the course – the second such incident in two months.
According to foreign media reports, a bear approached the first tee at the Sendai Classic Golf Club, prompting officials to call off the scheduled match.
Tournament organisers stated on the event website that a bear had been seen on the course on Wednesday, and the Pro-Am tournament was cancelled in order to ensure the safety of players, participants and staff.
Despite the sighting, organisers confirmed that the Meiji Yasuda Ladies Tournament, scheduled for Friday, would proceed as planned, though without spectators.
In May, a similar incident occurred at the Golf Club Twin Fields in Komatsu, Ishikawa Prefecture, where a bear sighting led to the cancellation of the final round of the Twin Fields Ladies Tournament, part of the women's second-tier Step Up Tour.
