An anti-polio campaign will commence across Punjab on May 26, health officials have announced.
According to details, the vaccination drive will continue in Lahore, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi until June 1, while in other districts of Punjab, the campaign will conclude on 30 May.
A meeting of the Provincial Task Force on Polio Eradication was held at the Civil Secretariat. It was chaired by Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir and attended by Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman.
Officials were briefed on the declining presence of the polio virus in environmental samples across the province. The success rate of the April campaign was reported at 98 percent.
The task force instructed relevant departments to continue implementing special measures to curb the spread of the virus. Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir stated that the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is committed to eradicating polio.
He praised the efforts of the Health Department, Commissioners, and Deputy Commissioners in ensuring the success of previous campaigns.
Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman acknowledged the challenges of conducting polio drives during the summer months and directed the Home Department to ensure full security for transit polio teams.
