Amid a critical shortage of medicines in several government hospitals across Punjab, the finance department has released Rs3.59 billion to address the crisis.
The funds have been allocated to 30 government hospitals across the province, ensuring the supply of essential medicines to patients in need.
The Punjab Finance Department has issued an official letter to the health secretary regarding the release of funds. A spokesperson from the health department confirmed that these funds were previously stuck in the budget but have now been allocated to facilitate hospitals.

Several major hospitals have been granted financial support to replenish their medicine stocks. According to the Health Department, the allocations include:
- King Edward Medical University – Rs30 million
- General Hospital – Rs125 million
- Jinnah Hospital – Rs270 million
- Gangaram Hospital – Rs240 million
- Services Hospital – More than Rs250 million
- Faisalabad Cardiology Hospital – Rs260 million
- Gujranwala Medical College – Rs110 million
- Punjab Institute of Neurosciences – Rs210 million
- DHQ Hospital Sargodha – More than Rs110 million
- DG Khan Cardiology – Rs200 million
- Multan Cardiology – More than Rs180 million
Ensuring medicine availability
The shortage of medicines had put immense pressure on hospitals, affecting patient care across Punjab. Health officials have assured that the funds will be utilized efficiently to meet the growing healthcare demands in Punjab’s public hospitals.
