The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government approved on Tuesday a uniform electricity tariff for the industrial estates and special economic zones (SEZs).
According to details, PM Shehbaz presided over a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy. During the session, the officials outlined the framework for providing electricity at a single point to these zones, simplifying connections and administrative procedures.
Under the new system, interference by distribution company officials in the zones would be eliminated, ensuring an uninterrupted power supply.

PM Shehbaz directed the immediate application of the system to all special industrial zones.
He said, “The development of industries is of paramount importance for national progress. Supplying electricity at uniform rates will accelerate the pace of industrial growth in the country.”
The energy reforms, aimed at providing cost-effective and environmentally friendly electricity to the public, were reviewed.
The prime minister lauded the Power Division and related entities for their efforts to reduce circular debt and enhance energy sector efficiency.
Separately, Power Minister Awais Leghari commended the advancements made in the power sector.
In a video message, Leghari stated, “Circular debt decreased by Rs12billion between July and November 2024, owing to improved policies and performance.”
He said: "The debt stood at Rs2,381billion by November, reduced from Rs2,393billion on 30 June 2024."
Leghari highlighted a recovery rate of 96 per cent during the same period, saying, “The entire sector is now reaping the benefits of initiatives launched under the current administration.”
The government also proposed revised agreements with 18 independent power producers (IPPs) before the federal cabinet.
