Army chief General Asim Munir held a detailed discussion with political leaders of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, emphasizing the need for unity, swift implementation of the National Action Plan, and targeted measures to combat terrorism.

Speaking during the meeting held on Monday, the army chief reaffirmed that Pakistan's revolves around national interest. "Our policy is only Pakistan," he stated.

Highlighting Afghanistan's as a “brotherly neighbour” and an Islamic country, he reiterated Pakistan’s desire for better bilateral relations. However, he pointed out a key issue: the presence of terrorists in Afghanistan and their role in spreading terrorism across the border into Pakistan.

"This difference will remain until the issue is addressed," he asserted.

No operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Dispelling rumours of widespread military operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, General Asim Munir clarified that no large-scale activities were being conducted. Instead, intelligence-based targeted operations are ongoing to neutralise specific threats.

He also assured that "Fitna al-Khawarij does not have any influence in any part of Pakistan".

Corruption and accountability

The army chief emphasized that acknowledging and learning from past mistakes is vital to progress. "Humans are prone to error. We all make mistakes, but not admitting them and not learning is an even bigger mistake," he remarked.

Calling for a united front against terrorism, General Munir said, "If there is a state, then there is politics. Without a state, there is nothing." He urged all stakeholders to rise above discrimination and prejudice to address the challenges facing the nation.

He welcomed the consensus among political parties on the National Action Plan, emphasizing the need for rapid action on it to implement its provisions.

Relationship between people and army

The army chief highlighted the unique bond between the people and the military, warning against efforts to create divisions. "The false narrative of a gap between the people and the army is being driven by a specific foreign agenda," he cautioned.

General Munir concluded by expressing hope for a brighter future. "When we go along together, the situation will improve soon," he said.
