The Lahore High Court (LHC) has reserved its decision on an application seeking property acquisition under the Women Protection Act. Justice Muzammil Akhtar Shabbir presided over the hearing and heard arguments from both sides.
The applicant, Afaq Yasmin Khan, claimed that her rightful share was not being granted from a property located in DHA. She argued that the female provincial ombudsman dismissed her application instead of addressing her grievances, and she requested the court to nullify the ombudsman’s decision.
During the proceedings, Justice Shabbir emphasised the importance of providing proof of ownership or inheritance to substantiate the claim. “You cannot claim your right to a property without evidence of entitlement,” the judge remarked.
“How can someone give you property without any proof? If such claims were accepted without basis, one could even claim ownership of Minar-e-Pakistan or Badshahi Mosque,” the court observed, stressing the absence of any legal provision supporting baseless claims.
The court directed the applicant to present valid inheritance documents from her parents to establish her entitlement. The verdict will be announced after reviewing the submitted arguments and evidence.
