Separate hearings were conducted at Adiala Jail on Monday for the Toshakhana 2 and £190 million corruption cases involving PTI Founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.
After remaining absent in several hearings, Bushra Bibi appeared in court, at which her arrest warrants in both cases were cancelled.
Toshakhana II case
Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand cancelled Bushra Bibi’s arrest warrant and provided copies of the FIA report upon the defence's request. Defence lawyer Salman Safdar argued that legal procedures require at least seven days after receiving the prosecution’s report before an indictment can be made.
The prosecution, however, pressed for immediate indictment of the suspects, claiming the suspects had already received all the copies. They also cited Bushra Bibi’s past absences, claiming she might not appear in future hearings.
Bushra Bibi personally assured the court of her commitment to attending hearings, stating, “When the sentence was passed, I walked to the jail myself. I missed some hearings due to illness and bail obligations in some cases, but will not be absent in the future.”
The court, after hearing arguments from both sides, adjourned the case, setting December 12 as the date for indictment.
£190 million case
In the separate hearing for the £190 million corruption reference, Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana canceled the non-bailable arrest warrants against Bushra Bibi. Both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi submitted their responses to the questionnaires under Section 342 after 15 hearings.
Imran informed the court that he intends to present witnesses in his defence, while Bushra Bibi declined to present any witnesses. The court adjourned further proceedings in this case to December 12.
The Toshakhana II case pertains to allegations of misappropriation of gifts, while the £190 million case involves a high-profile corruption reference related to funds allegedly misused by the accused. Both cases have drawn significant public attention, with their outcomes likely to have far-reaching implications.
