The Constitutional Bench Committee of the Supreme Court, led by Justice Aminuddin Khan, has referred the matter of forming a bench to hear appeals related to military trials of civilians to the Judicial Commission of Pakistan.
This decision came during the committee's third meeting on Wednesday, which noted that the decision of a case related to the military trial of civilians was announced by a seven-member bench.
The committee emphasized the importance of adhering to the seven-member bench's decision on cases involving civilian trials in military courts. Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, and the registrar were present in the meeting.
The meeting also considered important steps to improve the efficiency and transparency of the Constitutional Bench, and ordered the classification and compilation of cases within a week. Additionally, it decided that five chamber appeals are to be heard daily before each committee member to expedite proceedings.
To assist the Constitutional Bench, the committee decided to engage a civil judge.
The declaration issued at the conclusion clarified that all cases under Article 191A must include topics that deal explicitly with matters pertinent to the Constitutional Bench.
