The Lahore High Court has issued a directive to the Schools Education Department, instructing it not to renew the registration of schools that have failed to implement a proper bus policy.
This order was part of the written decision released after the last hearing of the smog case, highlighting the court's growing concern over schools' failure to follow transportation safety regulations.
The court noted that many schools are still not adhering to the bus policy, despite repeated instructions.
In addition to the bus policy, the court has ordered an inquiry into the renovation of underpasses along Canal Road. The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has been tasked with appointing an officer to lead the investigation into allegations of substandard materials being used during construction.
The court has demanded that a detailed report be submitted at the next hearing.
Justice Shahid Karim, who presided over the hearing, also expressed concern regarding the lack of implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the tanneries association in Kasur and the district administration. The deputy commissioner of Kasur was criticized for failing to enforce the terms of the MoU, with the court instructing the environment department to take immediate action against those violating the agreement.
This ruling was made in response to petitions filed by citizens, including Haroon Farooq, as part of ongoing efforts to address environmental and public safety concerns in the region.
