Pakistan's star fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi and his wife Ansha Afridi have welcomed their first child.

The couple have named their baby boy Aliyar. The joyful news was shared by the Afridi family on social media, where fans and well-wishers from around the world extended their congratulations.

The birth of their son marks a significant moment for the cricketing family. Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Khan Afridi, who is Shaheen’s father-in-law, has become a grandfather for the first time.

Back in July, there were reports that Shaheen and Ansha are expecting their first child. Pakistan's red ball coach Jason Gillespie had spoken about the news that the pacer could miss the then upcoming Test series against Bangladesh because of the impending new arrival.

"Shaheen can miss Bangaladesh Test matches due to childbirth. We can give him [some] rest if he wants to stay with his wife till then," Gillespie was quoted as saying then.

Pakistan are playing a two-match Test series against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, as the first Test started from August 21.

The left-arm fast bowler, Shaheen, got engaged to Ansha Shahid, the second-eldest daughter of former skipper of the national cricket team Shahid Afridi, in 2021, while their beautiful daytime nikah was performed in a private affair on February 3 last year.

The week-long wedding festivities and rukhsati were held in September 2023. The reception was held at the DHA Golf and Country Club and attended by a lot of Shaheen’s teammates from the national cricket team.
