Justice Ali Baqar Najafi of the Lahore High Court has become the latest recipient of a suspicious letter, raising alarms within the legal fraternity.
The letter, received by Justice Najafi's secretary, adds to the growing list of targeted judicial officials.
The development comes merely two days after five judges, including the chief justice of the Lahore High Court, similarly received suspicious letters.

Justice Najafi's secretary promptly handed over the suspicious letter to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) that has started an investigation. The CTD has taken custody of the letter for thorough forensic analysis and investigation.
On April 3, fives judges of the LHC, including the chief justice, received suspicious letters.
The development came after eight judges of the Islamabad High Court reportedly received suspicious letters containing a powder, which has now been revealed to contain arsenic. The LHC judges who received the letter include the most senior judge, Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, as well as Justice Alia Neelam, Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan and Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh.

Lahore DIG Ali Nasir Rizvi said an investigation was going on, and it was being checked from other courts as well.
According to the LHC Registrar's Office, the letter received by Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan contained both a suspicious powder substance and threatening content.
