The Sessions Court of Lahore on Friday handed down the death sentence to a father who was found guilty of raping his own daughter.
Additional Sessions Judge Mian Shahid Javed had reserved the verdict on Tuesday.
The harrowing case came to light in 2019 when the Sattoo Katla police station registered a case against the accused father, whose identity is being withheld.
The court reached the decisive verdict after a thorough trial process that included the presentation of evidence by the prosecution and testimonies from eleven witnesses.
In delivering the judgment, Judge Mian Shahid Javed emphasized the role of a father as the protector of his children.
He lamented that, in this particular case, the father had not only violated the “trust inherent in the parent-child relationship but had also irreparably harmed his daughter's physical and mental well-being”.
The court's verdict stated that the young girl had endured not only the physical trauma of sexual abuse but also severe mental torture, causing immeasurable damage to her personality and soul.
