The Lahore High Court (LHC) has been petitioned for the removal of Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani from his position.
A local citizen, Mashkoor Hussain, has filed the application, alleging that Sanjrani's current tenure as Senate chairman was illegal due to his holding of two political seats simultaneously.
According to the petition, Sadiq Sanjrani contested and won the election for a seat in the Balochistan Assembly, a move that violates the law as no individual can hold two political seats concurrently. The Election Commission of Pakistan had duly issued a notification of Sanjrani's success in the provincial assembly election.
The petitioner argues that Sanjrani's occupation of two political positions is unconstitutional, and calls for immediate action to rectify the situation. The election commission is urged to declare Sanjrani's Senate office vacant, as he is ineligible to hold it while holding a seat in the Balochistan Assembly, the application added.
Furthermore, the Lahore High Court has been implored to stop Sadiq Sanjrani from performing his duties as the Senate Chairman until the legal issues surrounding his dual positions are resolved.
