Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has extended invitations to political parties to collaborate on the formation of a parliamentary committee aimed at addressing the issue of missing persons in Balochistan.
Speaking at a news conference in Quetta, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti emphasized the importance of resolving the missing persons’ dilemma through concerted efforts. He expressed optimism that a parliamentary committee could offer valuable insights and solutions to the issue, highlighting the need for sincere intentions to yield positive outcomes.
On the occasion, Mr Zardari expressed his commitment to govern in line with the legacy of Shaheed Benazir, pledging to work collectively with all parties in the parliament to address the numerous challenges faced by Balochistan. He emphasized the significance of resolving issues with sincerity to achieve positive outcomes.
The PPP chairman pledged to prioritize the welfare of Balochistan’s citizens, particularly through economic agreements and addressing legitimate grievances.
The PPP chairman announced that Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti’s first official visit would be to Gwadar, where efforts would be made to provide economic relief to the people of Balochistan through strategic agreements. Reflecting on past efforts, he mentioned the Balochistan rights package initiated in 2008, suggesting that it could have resolved many of the region’s problems.
The Zardari scion reiterated the party’s commitment to combating terrorism in alignment with the National Action Plan. He stressed the importance of reconciliation, citing the Charter of Reconciliation and the philosophy of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, asserting that reconciliation is crucial to eliminate the country's fault lines.
On the issue of provincial autonomy, Bilawal pledged to provide suggestions to the federal government, ensuring the protection of Balochistan’s and small provinces’ rights. He affirmed the right of the Sunni Ittehad Council to propose candidates.
During his visit to Quetta, he was warmly welcomed by Balochistan CM Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, Nawab Sanaullah Zehri, and Faisal Karim Kundi at the airport. The visit signals a renewed commitment to address the challenges faced by Balochistan through collaborative and inclusive governance.
