The Supreme Court of Pakistan reaffirmed on Monday its commitment to upholding the integrity of the judicial system in light of recent developments surrounding allegations of election rigging in the 2024 general elections.
In today's court proceedings, the top court issued a written order, underscoring its stance on preventing any misuse of the legal process.
The order, delivered during the hearing of a petition against alleged election irregularities, highlighted the Court's vigilance against any attempts to exploit legal avenues for personal gain or fame.
"Under normal circumstances, a person may withdraw an application, but if such withdrawal is sought after achieving personal objectives, it amounts to an abuse of the judicial process," the Court stated firmly.
Furthermore, the apex court stressed its role in ensuring the fair and transparent administration of justice, asserting that measures would be taken to prevent the recurrence of any such incidents.
Notably, the petitioner in the case, identified as an ex-Brigadier, was directed to appear before the Court, failing which appropriate action would be taken.
In adherence to procedural norms, notices have been issued to the petitioner, as well as to the relevant law enforcement authorities, including the Station House Officer (SHO). Additionally, given the petitioner's military background, notices have also been dispatched to the Ministry of Defence.
Despite the Court's summons, the petitioners were conspicuously absent from today's proceedings. In response, the Court adjourned further hearings until February 21, reiterating its call for the petitioner's presence in court.
