Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa on Friday expressed his frustration with the current behavior of lawyers, highlighting concerning trends in the legal profession.
He remarked on how some attorneys are now speaking of locking courts, questioning the state of advocacy today.
In a recent address, CJP Isa said: "Where has the essence of lawyering gone? It seems to have devolved into arson, protests, and misconduct," he stated. The Chief Justice pointed out that such actions were once the domain of labor unions rather than legal professionals.
He urged lawyers to introspect and take only as many cases as they can handle effectively, stressing the importance of maintaining professionalism and ethical standards within the legal community.
"Criticizing others requires looking at one’s own conduct," he concluded, emphasising the need for self-regulation among legal practitioners.
