Josh Philippe’s scintillating 57-ball 96 and Babar Azam’s 42-ball 58 helped Sydney Sixers beat Sydney Thunder by 47 runs in the 7th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) in Sydney on Saturday.
After being put into bat first, the Sixers lost first wicket on 33. Topley removed Daniel Hughes on 15-ball 25, lacing with nine boundaries. Babar Azam and Josh Philippe added impetus to the Sixers’ innings by stitching a 140-run partnership.
Ben Dwarshuis and Moises Henriques (c) failed to show significant resistance with the bat.
Jack Edwards (3) and Joel Davies (1) remained unbeaten.
For Thunder, Topley picked up three wickets and McAndrew took two wickets.
In reply to 199-run target, the Thunder were bowled out for 151 inside the 20th over. Only Sam Billings (51) and Shadab Khan (41) showed resistance with the bat.
For the Sixers, Jack Edwards emerged as the standout bowler, picking up five wickets. Joel Davies took three wickets.
Kane Richardson and Todd Murphy took a scalp each.
