The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has dismissed social media claims that the green glow seen in the sea near Karachi is caused by pollution, confirming that the phenomenon is entirely natural.
According to WWF, the green bioluminescent glow is not toxic and should not be mistaken for harmful waste or chemical discharge.
Experts explained that the glow results from the natural bloom of Noctiluca scintillans, a species that appears annually and becomes more visible due to temperature changes in the water.

WWF stated that this bloom has been observed multiple times since 2012, including a prominent occurrence in 2017.
The organization reiterated that Noctiluca scintillans poses no threat to marine life and that the spread of misinformation online is unfounded. Representatives emphasized that the green shine is a recurring, harmless natural display along Karachi’s coastline.
