Amidst a significant reduction in the number of study permits granted to Indian students by Canada, concerns are rising about the implications for international education. Data revealed a striking reduction in processed applications, with a notable drop of over 40 percent since July.
In 2022, between July and October, Canadian authorities accepted approximately 146,000 new study permit applications for Indian students. However, this year, the figures took a sharp downturn, with only 87,000 applications being accepted during the same period in 2023. This marked a stark decrease, with a mere 60,000 more Indian student visas processed than the previous year.

Despite the decrease in application processing, there's been a continued increase in the study permit approval rate for Indian students. Notably, from January to September this year, over 32,000 Indian students received approvals to pursue studies in Canada. This uptick in approvals occurred despite the deceleration in the processing of applications.
