Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar said on Tuesday that the constitutional amendments are under consideration to strengthen the judicial system.
Expressing his thoughts, he urged the need to avoid speculation regarding the proposed changes, adding that the government is moving from a constitutional bench towards a constitutional court.
Atta Tarar said that discussions on constitutional amendments are part of a broader effort to reinforce judicial institutions. He emphasised that conjecture surrounding the proposed changes should be avoided until decisions are formally announced.
The minister made it clear that supporting any terrorist is neither legally nor morally acceptable. He said that promoting the narrative of a convicted prisoner sitting in jail cannot be justified in any manner.
Tarar criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying the party has moved beyond taking U-turns and has now become a “roundabout.” He maintained that the KP chief minister had personally uploaded a video of his visit to the Corps Commander House.
Separately, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar said that the proposed 27th constitutional amendment poses a serious risk and should not be pursued under any circumstances. He said that forming another court over the existing judiciary would be a mistake.
Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, Barrister Gohar said that constitutional provisions which could increase tensions among provinces should remain untouched. He reminded that the constitution clearly states that no province’s share can be reduced.
Barrister Gohar said that during the PTI government in 2020, work was carried out on the 10th National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, and all provinces are now waiting for the 11th award. He added that it was also decided in the Council of Common Interests that no new canals would be developed without consensus.
The PTI chairman said that at this crucial time, every patriot believes that all stakeholders should sheath their swords and take a step back for the sake of Pakistan and its people. He emphasised that opportunities for national improvement must be created.
Barrister Gohar added that PTI founder Imran Khan has not yet directed anyone to come to Islamabad. “When he issues instructions, we will see accordingly,” he said.
