Supreme Court Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa has firmly asserted that any interference by the executive in judicial matters will not be tolerated.
In a statement issued following a full court session presided over by Chief Justice Isa, it was emphasized that the judiciary will not tolerate any encroachment by the executive branch and remains steadfast in upholding its independence.
The statement highlights that on March 26, a letter from judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) was received, prompting Chief Justice Isa to convene a meeting with the concerned judges at his residence the same day.
In this meeting, which lasted for two and a half hours, the Chief Justice individually met and listened to the judges, underlining the gravity of the allegations made.
Following the prompt consideration of the letter’s contents, Chief Justice Isa convened a full court meeting and engaged in extensive consultations with the judges.
Subsequently, all Supreme Court judges unanimously resolved that the Chief Justice should hold discussions with the Prime Minister.
During the meeting with the Prime Minister, the most senior judge was also present, where assurances were given to uphold the judiciary’s independence. Additionally, it was agreed to establish an inquiry commission to address the concerns raised in the letter to the Prime Minister.
Furthermore, discussions encompassed ensuring the enforcement of decisions pertaining to the Faizabad dharna case. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of directing state institutions accordingly and expressed a commitment to enact legislation concerning state institutions based on the Faizabad sit-in case's directives.
