South African girl becomes Miss Universe

LAS VEGAS: A South African girl Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters has been crowned as the most beautiful woman of the Universe — Miss Universe.

This year’s Miss Universe was crowned in a grand ceremony at The AXIS theater at Planet Hollywood casino-resort on the Las Vegas Strip.

The girl 22-year-old has recently earned a business management degree.

The runner-up was Miss Colombia Laura Gonzalez. The second runner-up was Miss Jamaica Davina Bennett.

As many as 92 beauties from around the world took part in the decades-old competition. This year’s edition had the most contestants ever.

Nel-Peters earned a yearlong salary, a luxury apartment in New York City for the duration of her reign and more prizes.

Last year, Iris Mittenaere from France was crowned when the pageant took place in the Philippines.
